Statement

Art is my quest for knowledge. The sciences and humanities each look at the world through their own lens but don’t offer a way to synthesize a broader view of existence. I use painting as a tool to organize and collect patterns.

From atoms to entire galaxies there’s an inherent sense of visual familiarity to both the description of root elements and the processes by which these root elements combine and change over time. Information appears to organize itself in a predictive rhythmical manner. The probabilistic yet predictive aspects to these algorithms underlie all natural formative processes.

The consistency of form implies a strong sense of purpose and directionality. However, for as long as there’s uncertainty about whether this code represents an external environment or a reflection of the internal system it’s being observed by, how will we know whether we’re looking out, or if we’re looking in?

These paintings are produced to invoke the state of awe. The creative process is an opportunity to acknowledge limits of reason and see the worlds that exists beyond words. I invite you to slow down and think. Take a moment to wonder why. Remember how tiny we are compared to the stars, and yet how big can be a single heart. Feel that we are all in this together and believe that every moment is as beautiful as you make it.

My recent paintings explore the search for harmony, between the comfort of order and the magic of chaos. Discovery begins where the predictable breaks down. Within this choice, new worlds are born. The cultivation of unrepeatable work, which evolves on a moment-to-moment basis, yet still transpires a single message, represents the quality of our own evolutionary state as both individuals and as a collective. I leave you my footprint of findings to explore and expand upon.
